Spring 1999 D&D CARTOON POLL Here?s another good one for y?all: Since the beginning of time (well, at least for the past two years or so), everyone seems to disagree with everyone else about just how old the kids were supposed to be in the series. Okay, we all know Bobby was ten, but as for the rest of ?em, my guess is as good as yours. Some of you think they were junior high aged, others thought they were much older. So whattya waiting for? Cast you vote below. The results will be tallied and presented in the Summer issue, coming out in May, so PLEASE be sure to return your votes to me at IllyanaAM@aol.com by MAY 10th. Imagine my surprise when I was able to get an interview with Katie Leigh, the voice behind my favorite character, Sheila! As you can imagine, I had a billion questions, but I tried to limit myself to the ones below. :) Thank you again to Katie for providing us all with this look into how the show worked behind the scenes in the recording studio! Enjoy boys and girls! How did you get started? When I was in college in San Francisco, I made a rude VO demo tape. I managed to get a job there that entitled me to join SAG. After graduation I called an agency in LA and (long story short) got an agent. What did you like the best about playing Sheila on the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon? It was like my first real "acting" part. I remember doing (a) show with Laura O'Brien and our characters had conflict and was so real for me. (ED NOTE: This was the Karina episode, ?Citadel of Shadow?.) Did you all work together at the studios when recording the voices for the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon, or was it done separately? All together. If it was together, did the group dynamic influence any of the scenes in any way? Who in the group did you most enjoy working with and why? I loved the director. I liked Willie and Adam a lot. Tonya was a bodybuilder and I found her fascinating. But I guess Donnie and Willie I talked with the most. Do you have a favorite episode or moment in the D&D series? If so, what was it? I think I answered that above. Maybe you can remember the name of the episode. Actually I haven?t seen any shows in so many years...but I do have them on tape from off of the TV. Since I discovered (the Realm) web site, I'm feeling inclined to watch the shows again and maybe see the episodes through new eyes. What would you have liked to see developed in Sheila?s character, or any new stories with the character, had the show continued? Do you realize how long ago that was? ;> I wished Sheila could be a bit stronger and have more opportunities to explore who she was and not just Bobby's sister. I know you have worked on many other cartoon shows, such as playing Rowlf on Muppet Babies. What are some of your favorite characters you have played and why? Rowlf definitely is my favorite next to a long running character I play on a Christian radio series entitled "Adventures in Odyssey." Rowlf, because 1) I was the biggest Muppet fan before we ever did that show and getting the part was the most thrilling news I ever received, 2) meeting Jim Henson, 3) getting to sing in a studio like everyone's fantasy gig. Then Connie on Odyssey, because that show has touched many lives and families for God, and the characters have significant value to a lot of listeners. Do you have any advice for someone who might want to get into cartoon voice overs and voice acting? Really want to do it and go for it. You never know how your career will develop. Just keep getting educated and do what you like to do. Thank you so much again to Katie for doing this interview! I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did! :) vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
